The University of Toronto has been recognized by Forbes as one of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity 2023.

Forbes and Statista selected Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity based on independent surveys of more than 12,000 employees working part-time or full-time for companies employing at least 500 people in Canada. Companies were also assessed on gender diversity among their top executives and/or board members, and indicators such as tangible diversity-related initiatives, resource groups for employees, and proactive communication of diversity. The recipients were announced on July 11.

“Being named one of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity speaks to the deep commitment and hard work of faculty members, librarians, and staff across the University of Toronto,” said Kelly Hannah-Moffat, vice-president, People Strategy, Equity & Culture. “Our shared efforts to foster a culture of belonging at ��˾��ֱ�� are making a significant impact, and we will continue to build on this progress as we work to embed equity, diversity, and inclusion into all aspects of life at the university.”

Canada's Best Diversity Employers

For the 16th consecutive year, the University of Toronto has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers.

The competition, run by Mediacorp and published in the Globe and Mail, recognizes Canadian organizations that are creating impactful equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives within their institutions through intentional policies, community-centred action plans and best practices.

“It is an honour to be named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers again this year,” says Heather Boon, ��˾��ֱ��'s acting vice-president, people strategy, equity and culture. “Our efforts to foster a culture of belonging are ongoing, and there is always more to do. I’m grateful to the faculty members, librarians, and staff who deliver and support our equity initiatives and are actively working to keep improving on the progress we have made.”

The University of Toronto was recognized for its anti-racism efforts, including the work of its tri-campus equity offices; the broad range of educational programming offered by the Anti-Racism & Cultural Diversity Office; and the ongoing impact of its EDI working groups, including the Antisemitism Working Group and the Anti-Black Racism Task Force.
